    The Curtain (c. 1880) is a pastel and monotype on paper artwork by Edgar Degas that depicts a social gathering in a theater:

    The scene shows a ballerina in a white costume, a man in a black suit and top hat, and other figures in the wings of a theater. The background features a partially raised painted backdrop, a tree trunk, and a translucent drape or screen.
